Create ACH payout
Creates an **ACH payout** to an individual's US bank account, in USD. Path `pay_type` must be `payout`; any other value, including `payment`, returns HTML **404**. Requires merchant bearer token (`Authorization: Bearer …`) and ACH payouts enabled for your site; a site that isn't set up for them returns `1104` or `1506`. **Request body (JSON):** the recipient's `email`, `first_name`, and `last_name`, the `amount`, any other customer fields your site requires, and the bank account at the top level: `encrypted_account_number`, `rsa_key_id`, `routing_number`, and `account_type`, with optional `service_level` and `memo`. The recipient must be an individual: a request that includes `company` returns `1168`. ACH payouts don't use `transaction_descriptor` or `account_info`. **Outcome:** a successful create returns `status=approved` as initialization. The payout stays `pending` until the waiting period set for your site has passed without the transfer failing, then becomes `approved`. If the transfer fails, even after `approved`, the payout becomes `returned`. ACH payouts can't be cancelled: Cancel Transaction returns `1175`. **Authentication errors:** Authentication can return codes `1000`-`1008` for client IP, token, site, whitelist, signature, session, or token scope validation. See [Authentication](/docs/authentication) and [Error codes](/docs/error-codes).
